The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Qatar University is the first and only academic department in Qatar offering programs of Civil Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Civil Engineering undergraduate program is ABET accredited and its lab testing is ISO-certified in the field of Construction Materials. The Department benefits from high-quality faculty members with good percentage of holders of professional engineering license. The Department is supported by labs with good range of equipment. The Department is very active in research and professional activities. It is also active in outreach activities, serving the community, and supporting the industry sector in Qatar.

Position Summary
The Department ofCivil and Environmental Engineering has an opening in the area of TransportationEngineering. Applications are welcomedfrom applicants with a specialization within Transportation Engineering,especially from those with specialization in: Intelligent TransportationSystems (ITS), Traffic Operations, Traffic Safety Analysis, Traffic Simulation,and Transportation Planning. The appointed applicant will teach in theDepartment of Civil and Environmental Engineering and will have jointassociation with Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center at QatarUniversity to support the Center research and service to the industry. Theapplicant should have a track record in collaborating or working with theindustry through practical projects such as Traffic Impact studies, Trafficsimulation modelling, and Traffic Safety studies.
The applicant shouldhave a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate andpostgraduate levels. The appointed candidate will complement the existingfaculty in the department and will develop and sustain funded research programsand publish in leading journals.
The highly competitiveemployment package is commensurate with experience and rank. Qualifications:
Thesuccessful candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering froma prestigious university. They should also have expertise in the relevant areasand a track record of scholarly activities in the field. English language isessential. Candidates with industrial experience will be looked at favorably. Experiencein managing research projects and/or professional practices will also be advantageous.

- Required to be at least recognized authority in the subject area with achievements in research and scholarship, and an in-depth understanding of own specialism(s) to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
- Evidence of relevant research potential, including potential to publish in appropriate leading journals.
- Evidence of ability in teaching example able to use a range of delivery techniques to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
- Ability to initiate development in the curriculum and to take responsibility for the effective and efficient delivery of teaching programs, developing the curriculum and appropriate assessment techniques.
- Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on areas of teaching.
- Engaged in continuous professional development.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to colleagues and different kinds of students.
- Ability to perform to required deadlines and to initiate, plan, organize and deliver programs of work.

- Be able to adopt and develop a “student centered” approach to teaching and learning,
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in related Civil Engineering disciplines.
- Develop expertise in using course management environments such as Blackboard to support taught courses and assessment,
- Contribute to collaborative research, consulting and short courses in conjunction with local industries,
- Contribute to a collegiate atmosphere in the Department and College, and
- Advise undergraduate students and be involved effectively in service duties such as capstone project reviews, design juries, committee work and curriculum development.
