Job Purpose

The Social Media Strategist is an experienced social media content creator tasked with crafting, disseminating and fostering social media community engagement across diverse KAUST social media platforms. Their duties encompass not only the development and distribution of content but also reporting on its performance and contributing to the formulation of strategies aimed at enhancing brand engagement and acquisition rates for the University. Proficient in visual storytelling, the Social Media Strategist will be skilled in transforming written content into captivating social media material, and apply meticulous attention to detail before distribution.

 

Major Accountabilities

Develop and execute social media communications, content and initiatives for KAUST#s primary social platforms

  • Oversee the content calendar for various social channels.
  • Craft and refine copy for social media platforms.
  • Curate engaging content (videos, imagery, etc.) for KAUST#s social media channels that resonate with our target demographics.
  • Establish, oversee and optimize paid campaigns across a spectrum of social media platforms.
  • Engage in routine social media monitoring and escalate delicate matters as needed.
  • Handle audience data sensitively and ethically, adhering to KAUST privacy policies.

 

Measure and analyze the effectiveness of KAUST#s social media strategies and initiatives

  • Monitor user engagement to recommend content enhancements.
  • Perform content audits to pinpoint deficiencies and overlaps in social media content.

 

Initiate and nurture robust partnerships with internal stakeholders across all organizational tiers

  • Provide guidance and assistance to internal stakeholders, web contributors, and digital channel managers on optimal social media communication practices, encompassing both organic and paid marketing and engagement efforts.

 

Social Media activation at key events

  • Mobilize or coordinate representation at in person activations and events to build social media communities and engagement.

 

Stay updated on current social media best practices, trends, and emerging technologies

  • Monitor industry developments and innovations in social media platforms.
  • Continuously research and evaluate new strategies for effective social media engagement.
  • Incorporate newly acquired knowledge into social media strategies and initiatives.

 

GBC specialist team or agency coordination to delivery of social media assets

  • Provide clear and concise briefs to GBC specialists or external partners outlining project requirements, objectives, and timelines.
  • Oversee the execution of social media campaigns, ensuring deliverables align with brand guidelines and campaign objectives.
  • Manage relationships with specialist teams in GBC or external vendors, fostering effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and provide feedback on creative concepts, designs, and copy to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or concerns that may arise, proactively resolving obstacles to ensure timely delivery of assets.
  • Maintain organized documentation of project specifications, agreements, and communications with external partners.

Person Requirements

Competencies

  • Knowledge of social media platforms and asset requirements — must be up to date in understanding how to design and copywrite for social media.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to craft clear messages for broad audiences from a variety of content.
  • Strong ability to develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Strong project and intake management skills, with the ability to take creative ideas from conception to execution.
  • High degree of self-motivation and good work ethic with proven ability to work independently. 
  • Awareness of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to differentiate public from confidential information. 
  • Creative sense of graphic design and multimedia.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or journalism; Master’s degree preferred.  

Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in social media strategy development, social community management and content creation 
  • Fluent writing skills social media and public audiences. 
  • Demonstrated copywriting experience. 
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and social media dashboards such as Hootsuite.
