The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) provides a unique platform that contributes to critical intellectual debates on Islam in a global context, through its blended academic programs and an immersive learning experience; as well as its distinguished research division, which includes several research centers and clusters.

The college’s graduate and PhD programs equip students with the training and skills required to pursue careers in academia and research, as well as the cultural, business, and finance sectors, through the specialized tracks that are offered and year-round development opportunities.

Position

To provide high-quality teaching of Classic Arabic semantics to non-native speakers, collaborate with other language skills teachers and Islamic faculty, develop engaging lesson plans, provide feedback and support to students, and stay updated on the best practices in teaching.

Job Role Description

  • Teach Classic Arabic semantics and texts to non-native speakers, utilizing effective instructional strategies and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with other language teachers to apply Arabic semantics practically in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities.
  • Collaborate with Islamic faculty members to integrate relevant material and terminologies used in Islamic sciences into the curriculum.
  • Conduct regular meetings with other teachers to ensure coordination and complementation of teaching strategies.
  • Develop and implement Arabic semantics lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that align with curriculum standards and meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide feedback and support to students, including regular assessments and progress reports.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active participation and engagement.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments and best practices in teaching Classic Arabic in the field of semantics and Islamic sciences through professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in faculty-wide events, meetings, and committees as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Other reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 6-8 years of relevant full-time experience, 2 of which at a supervisory level. MA Preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Classic Arabic semantics and texts.
  • Knowledge of Islamic sciences and ability to integrate relevant materials into the curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and faculty members.
  • Familiarity with instructional technologies and resources for teaching Classic Arabic in semantics.
  • Ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans and assessments.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
